Major fastener manufacturers produce screws specifically designed for composite decking, which reduce the need for pre-drilling and countersinking. For ease of installation, 2½" corrosion-resistant composite wood deck screws are a great choice, as they help minimize the common “mushroom” effect caused by standard fasteners.

To secure deck boards invisibly, consider using Stowaway Hidden Deck Fasteners.

For Fastendry installations, broad-head stainless steel 2" nails are ideal.

Does Deckorators Decking require gapping between boards?

Yes, all Deckorators Decking requires gapping between boards to allow for thermal expansion and contraction and water runoff, but specific gapping requirements vary by product line.

Our patented Surestone technology minimizes thermal expansion and contraction. This means end gapping is less critical, but consistent spacing is still recommended. We recommend 1/16” to 1/8” depending on outdoor temperature at time of installation.
